Alfa Romeo is preparing a new roadster for Car Loans for bad credit customers – the Spider Roadster – which will hit the showrooms in a few years time. With a joint venture with Mazda, this time it will come with a brand new rear-wheel drive chassis
The joint venture allows Alfa Romeo to share the same platform and underpinnings used by what is claimed to be the best selling sports car in the world – the Mazda MX5. The two versions will built in Mazda’s factory locate in Hiroshima, Japan. However, both cars will be getting different engines, interiors, bodies and transmissions.
Mazda and Alfa Romeo refuses to disclose any particular information, but it is stated that the new roadster will become a successor to the very famous Duetto Spider which made its first appearance in 1966 and also appeared in the 1967 movie, The Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman.
Pictured above is an illustration to give you a rough idea how the Spider roadster would look like. The curves on the car are reminiscent of the original Duetto Spider. The grille would look familiar to most of you also though the headlights look like a modern rendition of the Duetto.
Using Mazda’s new and advanced SKYACTIV technology, it is no surprise that the new chassis will be unbelievably light – the Spider would very likely weigh less than a ton. For the best handling possible, the engine will be placed as close as possible to center of the car.
Because of the lightweight chassis, it is not necessary for the Spider to have a big engine – it would just be overkill and hurt the wallets of the owners as the environment anyway. True to the MX-5’s philosophy of being back-to-basics, the Spider would likely be equipped with a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with power output ranging from 135bhp to 175bhp.
As with any high-performance Cloverleaf cars, it is also possible that the Spider would be equipped with 1.75-liter turbocharged engine found in the upcoming 4 coupe with peak horsepower sitting at over 230bhp.
Alfa Romeo has not said anything about the price of the car yet, but do expect the Spider roadster to cost slightly more than the new MX5 which Mazda has announced to start at £20,000. The Spider will commence production in 2015.
